Volunteer Needs
River District Association's volunteer needs

Preservation Committee
Looking for people who like to do research and analysis for things like; zoning, building codes, design standards; determining if changes or additions are needed; working with city officials; history and architecture for Historical Walk-Abouts; assisting with writing tour guide script; fact checking for Historical Walk-Abouts’ existing information
Organize and transfer existing historical information into electronic format for archival and website purposes
Tour guides for Historical Walk-Abouts (once a month, Saturday mornings, April – October, 2 hours plus script study time)
Coordinator for trash pick ups prior to Historical Walk-Abouts plus other dates (plan route, procure supplies, recruit volunteers and work with community groups)
Work with City of Gardens on beautification projects such as hanging baskets and flower planting around River District (promote basket sponsorships to businesses, recruit volunteers for flower plantings, help with planning, go to COG and RD Presv. Com. meetings)
Attend Preservation Committee meetings once a month


Membership Committee
Plan and organize membership recruitment projects
Help with collating membership packets
Work at RD events to promote membership
Assist with member surveys
Attend Membership Committee meetings once a month
Identify new benefits for members; assist with distributing benefits to members
Recruit businesses to offer member discounts and specials


Business Liaison Committee
Research and write about financial incentives for existing/new businesses/property owners for compilation into a how-to/users manual
Be a Mentor (existing business/property owners mentor potential entrepreneurs)
Identify and become familiar with available commercial properties
Seek potential entrepreneurs
Assist with case studies of successful businesses (interview and document story)
Work on façade rebate program
Work on business retention program


Residential Committee
(This is a new committee. Additional tasks will be identified later.)
Assist with identifying prospective residents and documenting their needs for potential and existing residential property owners/landlords
Research and document tasks, financial incentives, and more for compilation into a how-to/users manual for potential property owners
Plan and organize Development Networking Tours
Gift Bags for New Residents – coordinate communication with residential property owners, recruit items for the bags from businesses


Finance Committee
Assist with budget planning
Research and procure new funding sources
Research and write grants
Plan and organize sponsorship opportunities and benefits; identify and procure sponsors


Marketing Committee
Develop the River District brand
Develop/Implement public relations initiatives
Establish joint partnership opportunities
Create special promotions
Develop radio and TV PSAs
Create River District collateral material
Review and identify needed updates for website
Conduct market surveys
Work on newsletter, Crossings


Planning Committee
Identify and determine needs for infrastructure changes (signage, traffic, parking, etc.)
Help with public meetings – set up, check-in, tear down, documentation
Block Analysis – work with City of Rockford on analyzing selected blocks of downtown area identify elements of each block, potential code violations and concerns, recommendations, and other related information.


Heart of Rockford Awards
Plan and organize ceremony and dinner
Create theme for event, invitation design, decorations
Promote event
Coordinate ordering of awards
Work at event – set up, check-in, tear down, clean-up
Nominating Sub-Committee – Identify nominees for each award category; Research and document information about each nominee; Promote effort to procure nominees in the community; Prepare visual presentation of each nominee for review by the award jury


Mixers
Volunteer Coordinator – recruit volunteers and coordinate tasks for food pick-up/delivery, set up, check-in, tear down, clean-up, and membership table
Beverage servers
Identify host locations and work with committee chair to coordinate host responsibilities


Red Ball
Plan and organize dinner, sponsorship packages, raffle
Identify and coordinate other fundraising opportunities for event
Work at event – set up, check in-in, tear down, etc.
Decorations


Groove Walk
Work on event planning committee
Work a shift at event – admission
Site Supervisor – recruit and oversee volunteers for one establishment
River District Ice Cream Booth at On the Waterfront Festival
Help with set up on Friday morning and tear down on Sunday night
Work a 3 hour shift – take tickets, make soft serve ice cream cones
Office - Clerical – filing, database entries, make copies, answer phone, collate membership recruitment folders and member packets, organize and file newspaper clippings, make website calendar entries, other as needed.
